SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Steppe Resort is located on the Xilamuren Steppe in Baotou, China. It spans a fifty-thousand-square-meter area and features a building size of 8,000 sqm. The resort has planned a group of core buildings, including the exhibition, performance, commerce, fair, and food alley. It also has a visitor center, outdoor theater, Kid's Wonderland, a living area in the second phase, and a marked wind installation. The planning was inspired by the Live-By-Water lifestyle, a traditional and ecologically sustainable settlement in the steppe that nomads have practiced for thousands of years. The undulated circulation makes the resort connect the River Xilamuren to Swan Lake at a grand scope. The different functions dynamically follow the trace of the resort's central axis. The wind installation aims to retain the wind and also design for landscape shading corridors. It begins with the visitor center, along the outline shape of buildings, up to the second floor, and encloses a circular space to experience the clouds, then ends in the Kid's Wonderland at the northeast of the resort. The blue strips are tied at the top of the wind installation, which is a worship of Blue in the steppe culture. The structure is based on the parameter design method; the dynamic steel joist, covered by blue soft-close strips in the wind, presents the wind's shape and also symbolizes the Tangri River levitating in the sky. The resort featured the Aesthetics of the Steppe. When immersed in the timeless steppe, your senses are full of only the water, grass, wind, clouds, sky, and yourself. With an extreme experience of sight, voice, smell, taste, touch, and spirits, the resort translates nature into a hospitality lifestyle. Under the low-tech design language, decarbonized materials, and ecological construction, the quality of life for people who live or visit is strengthened.
