SHORT DESCRIPTION
This café is part of The Pomelo Amphawa master plan, comprising five buildings designed to integrate with the site’s crops and trees. Located within a lychee garden, the café faces the Mekong River to the north—an ideal orientation to reduce direct tropical sunlight. The design centers on geometric contrast: a rectangular glass interior is surrounded by a circular concrete amphitheater. Open on all sides, the structure welcomes access from every direction and interacts closely with the natural surroundings. The lower edge of the amphitheater faces the river, functioning as a viewpoint for visitors to enjoy the landscape. Concrete is used throughout to emphasize the building’s form—balancing curves and stepped lines that encourage movement. Below, the shaded semi-outdoor space references “Tāithun,” the under-floor area of traditional Thai homes, providing a cool public zone during the day. Skylights bring sunlight into this area while preserving the existing trees. The rooftop functions as an evening venue facing the river, supporting round-the-clock use. Seating includes indoor café tables and bar seats, with outdoor options like benches and net seating beneath the trees—offering both comfort and connection to nature. This project creates a welcoming public space that harmonizes with its riverside setting and serves as a memorable gathering place throughout the day and night.
